Custom Solar-Powered Emergency Safety Showers for the Mining Industry
The Client Need
In the mining industry, worker safety is paramount — especially when handling fuels, chemicals, or corrosives. Our mining client required emergency safety shower and eyewash units that could:
Operate independently off-grid, powered by solar.
Deliver a 15-minute continuous water flow to meet compliance standards.
Provide instant visibility and alerts during emergencies.
Ensure easy access to maintenance and refills in remote conditions.
Built for mining – Ready for any site handling fuels, chemicals, or corrosives.
The Challenges
Designing a solution for a mining environment required careful consideration:
Compliance & Reliability: Showers had to meet strict industry safety standards, including minimum water delivery and duration.
Power Autonomy: With no mains electricity, the system needed to run entirely on solar and battery power.
Environmental Durability: Units had to withstand harsh outdoor conditions while protecting water quality and maintaining temperature regulation.
Rapid Response: Workers needed clear lighting, alarms, and access to first aid the moment an incident occurred.
The PETRO Solution
We engineered three custom-built Emergency Shower & Eyewash Stations with advanced safety and operational features:
Solar-Powered Operation — An 800W solar system with dual inverters, one for the 24/7 green safety light, and another for the 240V pump.
High-Capacity Delivery — A 1,200L insulated water tank capable of delivering 75L/min for 15 minutes, exceeding compliance requirements.
Safety Integration — Continuous green beacon light, plus a flashing red light and alarm that activate immediately during use.
Emergency Readiness — A quick-access first aid kit mounted externally for immediate response.
Smart Tank Design — Visible tube gauge for water levels, bunded pit for overflow, and lockable side door for refilling and easy maintenance.
Remote Monitoring — The solar and battery system can be checked via a Bluetooth application for operational status.
Site Mobility — Forklift pockets built into the frame allow for simple relocation across site.
Both the outer insulated panels and the internal tank are designed to regulate water temperature, ensuring safe operation in hot mining environments.
Results & Impact
These emergency showers provide the client with:
Full compliance with industry safety standards.
Reliable operation in remote, off-grid locations.
Rapid worker protection with 24/7 readiness and instant emergency alerts.
Low-maintenance durability backed by PETRO’s engineering expertise.
The project demonstrates how PETRO can custom-design safety-critical equipment that not only meets compliance, but also delivers peace of mind in the harshest operating conditions.

Helping Transform a New Retirement Village into a Welcoming Community
As construction nears completion, extensive landscaping is often the final step in transforming a new development into a welcoming community. In this representative project scenario, a commercial landscaping contractor was tasked with completing gardens, communal spaces and surrounding grounds across a large retirement village. With multiple crews and diesel-powered machines working throughout the site, reliable access to fuel was essential. PETRO Hire provided a flexible on-site diesel storage and fuel-management solution, helping keep equipment fuelled, crews productive and the landscaping program moving toward completion.
Major infrastructure projects need reliable fuel without the cost and commitment of permanent infrastructure. In this representative water pipeline project, PETRO Hire provided two 4,500-litre self-bunded PC Cube tanks, delivering 9,000 litres of secure on-site fuel storage for heavy construction equipment. The flexible, relocatable solution kept machinery fuelled, reduced downtime and adapted to changing site requirements—demonstrating how PETRO Hire can scale fuel infrastructure as your project grows, changes and progresses.
Purpose-Built Pumping and Temperature Control for a Two-Year Hire
When specialised products require precise storage, temperature management and controlled transfer, a standard tank-and-pump solution may not be enough. In this project, PETRO Hire was approached to provide a 12,000L LT Tank for the storage and transfer of temperature-sensitive emulsion over an initial two-year hire period. Rather than supplying off-the-shelf equipment, PETRO engineered a purpose-built package incorporating customised pumping equipment, insulated and lagged pipework, integrated controls and protected service infrastructure—delivering a complete storage and transfer solution designed specifically around the customer’s process.
